In Recovery Mode

Day 5 of the foot surgery recovery and things are going pretty well.

My dear hubby has become a right proper man-servant/nurse and has made sure I have liquids, pain meds, naps and help getting around and answering the phone. He has been referring new clients to my other sewing friends and taking messages on the phone. He has been doing all the cooking and cleaning and in this process he has discovered that his housekeeping knowledge base was lacking a little. He asked if I would tutor him in some basic things like:

How to make an omelet with fillings ( to flip or not and when is it done)

How to make iced tea with tea bags (how many bags in 2 quart pitcher)

How to run a load of wash (settings and detergent)

How to run the dryer (what settings)

How to chop Chinese cabbage (how long to cook)

How to make low-carb waffle batter for his latest purchase of a new flip-over waffle maker

He says he never realized how much he didn’t know since I was doing these things and he has mastered all the tips and tricks this week except I forgot to mention that after drying a load of towels and then a load of sheets and a load of clothes the lint screen must be cleared. As soon as I reached inside the dryer to get my nice warm pajamas I realized I had forgotten this valuable lesson. The amount of lint was enough to construct a Pomeranian puppy!

It is certainly not easy being an active seamstress and being restricted to sitting on your sofa with your leg elevated for 72 hours with ice packs. Here I am in my sewing room with the TV, laptop and most of my machines just sitting there not in use. Here is what I look at all day:

My other sewing room aka “the annex” is filled with projects all cut out and waiting in Ziploc bags. Here is what I am thinking about working on next:

Β

The fabric is from JoAnn’s and as they only had 2 yards it will be a shorter tunic version for now. The fabric is a bit sheer so the bodice will need a lining of some sort.

Other things I have managed to hand baste this week are some Emma Seabrook knit tops and a pair of Coni Crawford cropped pants (Butterick 5504) with front pockets and center front seams on the legs.

Other thoughts this week have been how to get rid of an extension table that I got by mistake when purchasing my Janome commercial machine. The previous owner said she would include it in the price and then when it arrived it didn’t fit any other machine I had. Doing some investigation on the internet I found out it is a Babylock Ellageo extension table. Normally they sell for around $100 with a little hoop grip for quilting but she must have kept that for herself. If anyone knows of someone who would like to buy this little puppy for $40 please let me know. I will ship anywhere once I find out the UPS postage.

For those of you who love blogs and new patterns, this week “3 Hours past the Edge of the World” blog features a cool new pattern loosely based on a vintage wrap top. Check out her tutorials and great photos and links to followers who make her garments and love them.

Wishing all of you a super week filled with great sewing and maybe do a little skipping for me!

Thanks for the shout-out! I hope you feel better soon. Your tutelage reminds me of when I had just had our daughter… I asked my husband to make me a sandwich and he brought me a single piece of ham between two pieces of white bread… I thought “oh dear, he doesn’t even know how to make a decent sandwich…” I have to say he’s come along nicely in that area…

I’m so glad you are on the mend! My husband does laundry by weight I think- he just keeps cramming it in until he feels done. But he can cook ,so I can’t complain.
I love the Kay Whitt patterns- can’t wait to see your tunic.

My husband would be proving that he can he’s better at house work than me. Of course, I always tell him he’s right.

  5. I have been thinking about an extension table for my Ellageo for some time and would gladly take yours off your hands.

Too bad, it may stop soon as you completely recovery, or will he have a change in house duties, hmmm? Circumstances tend to bring about change. πŸ˜‰
I love tht fabric you’re thinking of making that tunic out of…maybe it was the Joann’s here that I saw it at…it’s beautiful.
Can’t wait til you get back up and running…looking for tales from the seamstress. πŸ™‚

A couple people have written to me about that fabric being at their JoAnn’s so maybe there will be a whole bunch of people running around with that design? Lots of my clients are waiting at the starting gate for March when the sewing room doors open…then the stories will resume…ha ha. Keeping my fingers crossed that some of the cooking continues after the foot is healed!!!!!!
