Simple 1

Older second-time brides can be so easy to work with. They want classic lines and good fit.

This bridesmaid dress fits the bill and it came with straps that we could use to make things secure.

The skirt needed hemming and straps sewn on and of course push-up bra cups.

All my brides are told that tight underpants make the dress skim the body so that will be the next purchase for this lovely woman.

Β

Last week, I mentioned that I would share some photos of our 3 days away which included a trip to the OregonΒ  zoo, and a tulip festival and a breakfast at the IHOP .

Mr Mole felt a real connection to the lions…must have been their rigorous schedule:

Even though the tulip fields included acres and acres of muddy paths, it was great to see all the colors and varieties.

The Oregon Gardens were still under the shadow of winter but the tropical greenhouse had some lovely specimens. There was a carnivorous plants that waits for insects to fall down the tube and then digests them and of course, Cymbidium orchids.

One of the real advantages of getting away is finding our favorite breakfast restaurant and ordering our favorite item…German crepes:

On the last day, since it was my birthday, Mr Mole had a dinner planned for the two of us and just before we were leaving the hotel, there was a knock on the door. I answered it and was in shock! There stood my youngest daughter who lives in Washington, DC, 3000 miles away. She had just finished a week-long seminar in Seattle and rented a car, drove 5 hours, to surprise me!Now, it is back to the brides and deadlines…more vintage dresses to modernize from WAY BACK…stay tuned!

I have to share this from Sharon, my sewing sister in Maryland…a little warped:Thanks for dropping by, hope everyone had a super Easter!

Forgot to say. Looks like her Mom.

    • mrsmole says:

Oh Donna, wish I could go back 36 years to when she was born and regain the energy and tight skin I had back then! It was about the time we met too!

We are all Peeps around here. Delicious roasted. And what a treat to see your daughter! I spent the weekend seeing my college son at WSU; it’s a pleasure to see him now. They do grow up, and go away just when they are getting interesting.

  9. Cheryl Designs says:

LOVE the PEEP SHOW πŸ™‚ What a wonderful daughter you have πŸ™‚ Pretty AND thoughtful πŸ™‚ I try to persuade my ‘older’ brides into a one piece body shaper. Provides a bra PLUS a long smooth line under their gowns πŸ™‚ EXTRA BIT-They can subtract about 2″ from the LAX midriff/belly/hip area πŸ™‚ Face it, ALL of us need some LIFT/Compression as we age πŸ™‚ Well, as far as formalwear. I just wear tee shirts and jeans πŸ™‚ No worries πŸ˜‰

    • mrsmole says:

If you are like me, most of your time is spent either on the floor pinning or hunched over a hot machine so my “uniform” is stretch cropped leggings and a loose top…no time or room for glamor…that is all for the brides in the giant mirror!

  10. Brenda says:

I’m delighted you had the surprise from your daughter!

  11. Elva says:

It’s so nice to have a bride with an elegantly simple gown! I had an older bride several years ago with a pale blue gown similar to the one you showed above. She wanted me to shorten it “just up to here” — I told her not touching it until you bring your shoes so we can see exactly how much to shorten it. Good thing I did — her original estimate of shortening amount was way off, it would have been a disaster, way too short.

Now, I don’t do wedding gowns at all. There are 4 of us good seamstresses in our small town, plenty of work for all. 2 of us do wedding, bridesmaids, and prom gowns (for which I am profoundly grateful, it saves me from having to deal with bridezillas). I do lots of menswear, mend fur coats, jeans hems, all sorts of other stuff. We seamstresses each have our own business, we refer customers back and forth, we are colleagues, not competitors.

Thanks again for your blog, I appreciate all the pictures. And, Happy Belated Birthday to you!

    • mrsmole says:

It is the same in our small town…we can share clients and move them around to get the best service especially when one of us is ill or out of town. There is something to be said for variety of projects…having a constant diet of ivory fabric can make a girl a little crazy!

  12. maryfunt says:

Thank goodness for the easy brides! Happy Birthday.

  13. Beth (SunnyGal Studio) says:

happy birthday, those flowers are lovely. and what a nice break for you and a great surprise to have a visit from your daughter.

    • mrsmole says:

It was a great start to Spring…well if the rain EVER goes away here in the Northwest! But everything is blooming better than ever with all the dampness! 3 days away can refresh your mind as well as your body!

  14. Tia Dia says:

What a treat having your daughter show up at the door! The tulips are gorgeous – I’m still waiting for mine to bloom. And that dress is a nice switch up from the last one you posted about.

    • mrsmole says:

The tulips festival ends the first week of May so we were so lucky to be there at the peak…then they all go dormant and have to wait until next April. They did also have wine tasting in a separate building but we had just had breakfast and didn’t have room for any wine…maybe next time.

  15. Linda Craig says:

Happy Birthday Dear Sweet Mrs. Mole. Your daughter is beautiful & what a wonderful surprise.

May your new year be blessed with good health, happiness & success.

You have a cute husband too!

    • mrsmole says:

Thank you, Linda…I am truly blessed and can only complain about the volume of dresses when I take on too many. Sending good wishes back to you too for happy sewing projects and sunshine!

  16. jay says:

    Happy Birthday!

    • mrsmole says:

Thank you, Jay…funny how many people as they get older just want to stop celebrating…birthdays also say, “I survived another year” and isn’t that something to really celebrate?

  17. K says:

Happy birthday Mrs. Mole! What a wonderful weekend you had with your beautiful family!

  18. mrsmole says:

Mr Mole planned it all and kept my daughter’s visit a real surprise for 2 weeks. It was torture for him hoping it would all come together. They both worked so hard to make the timing right. I am a lucky girl! Thank you, K!

  19. That is a lovely classic dress. Very nice! I love the lying around sign. I think it could probably apply to a lot of husbands! πŸ™‚
